Prolotherapy Injection Therapy Prolotherapy is another type of regenerative injection therapy that we offer at the Idaho Center for Integrative Medicine. It is great for use on injuries in or around a joint, as it is used to help tighten ligaments that may have become too loose from trauma or overuse. Not to be confused with Neural Prolotherapy (which is used for neuropathic pain), prolotherapy can be a great option in avoiding surgery by simply strengthening the tissue around a joint. When the joint itself is stabilized, the compensatory muscles can relax, and the cartilage of the joint takes on less wear and tear from aberrant movement patterns. Every joint in the body has ligaments around it to hold it in place, and many also have a joint capsule to provide more stability and to house the joint fluid necessary for keeping a joint healthy. Have a painful joint? Call our Boise office today and see how you can benefit from prolotherapy! What is Prolotherapy? What is Prolotherapy? Prolotherapy Injection Therapy is a procedure where we inject a small amount of sugar (dextrose) water into the injured tendon or ligament of a joint for pain management and to speed healing. It is a quick and easy procedure geared at getting you back on your feet quickly! By injecting this solution into the painful site, the body recognizes the need to send in repair cells to remodel and strengthen the surrounding tissue. This procedure has been around for many years and is quite safe. We don't use any steroids in our injections, as these are proven to weaken ligaments, which is the opposite of what we want to do. Some people experience slight swelling or stiffness at the injury site, but subsides very quickly in most patients. What can Prolotherapy help with? What can Prolotherapy help with?
