Have you ever heard the saying, “If the twig is bent, so grows the tree”? Think about this: If your spine, or other joints in the body, are not able to function properly it will trigger a chain reaction that will affect the whole body...or bend the body to be like the afflicted joints. Subluxation and joint dysfunction can lead to poor health. Manipulation of these joints will enable the body to heal and function properly again.

Remember that chiropractic care is not limited to the back, but it is the most popular reason to seek chiropractic care. The manipulations and adjustments are performed to restore proper function once again to that area of the body.

Some of these benefits include:

  • Stimulating the nerve fibers around the joint to trigger the brain to recognize it once again and reminds it that the joint needs to move.
  • Freeing up adhesions and scar tissue that may have developed in or around the joint area.
  • Increasing blood flow to the affected area, therefore more nutrients are delivered for healing and function.
  • Helping to pump stagnant fluid that may be irritating a nerve or blood vessel. This can make an enormous difference because the nerves control most of the functions in the body.
  • Returning bones to their correct position. Bones don't have to be completely dislocated to cause pain in the body.
  • Enabling muscle tissues to relax. Many times, people with chronic muscle pain have associated joint pain. Surrounding muscle tissues will always be taken into consideration during treatment.

Chiropractic care is encouraged for all bodies. Why wait until the twig is bent before you decide to

change it? Keep that twig healthy and supple and without illness, with just a little maintenance.

Many people are afraid it will hurt to be adjusted because they are already in a lot of pain. It is a normal reaction to be protective of a wounded area. However, here in our office, we strive to keep you comfortable and many times, relief is felt almost immediately as those muscles let go. Let go of the fear and take a step to achieving a better state of health. We are here to help you make that a reality!

It is reported that many insurance companies will help cover your cost of chiropractic care. To know for sure, please talk with your health care provider for specifics.

DTox

At ICIM, we believe that all of us can use a tune-up.

Most of us have a buildup of toxins just waiting to come out through sweat, urine or poop.

Often your detox might need a little assistance.

Therapies to help you detox include eliminating certain inflammatory foods, adding supplements to flush the liver, or an IV therapy to cleanse the blood. Our hope is that you will start feeling better after applying these therapies.

However, sometimes you might experience an unexpected reaction when those nasty toxins start are released from the liver and eliminated via sweat, urine, or feces.

You might experience any of the following side effects:

  • Anxiety
  • Irritability
  • Body pain
  • Tremors
  • Changes in appetite
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue
  • Sleeplessness
  • Sleepiness
  • Leg cramps
  • Cravings
  • Sweating
  • Shivering
  • Or other mild, but annoying, symptoms

Consider any of the following remedies to help deter the detox symptoms and make the process go faster:

  1. Stop taking the supplement for 3-5 days and then restart low and slow. Document your reactions if you think that you might forget the details.
  2. Consider consuming a binder, such as Activated charcoal, bentonite clay, or zeolite to help mop up the toxins and speed up healing. Our helpful front office staff can assist you with these products.
  3. Epsom salt baths are fabulous for helping elimination pathways do their job. Treat yourself to some bath time.
  4. Schedule yourself for asauna at our clinic and sweat out the bad stuff!
  1. Make sure you’re having 2+ BM’s every day and use a magnesium citrate or Vit C, as needed.

Most importantly, don’t get discouraged. Remember that detoxing and die-off is headed in the right direction toward health and healing. Check out this article (https://healthygut.com/5-die-off-myths-everyone-needs-to-know-about/) to help you determine if you are indeed experiencing die-off or perhaps symptoms due to another cause. Don’t hesitate to call us if you have any questions and would like to talk to our Functional Medicine Practitioners or Nutrition Coach.

Many of our clients report that they wake up nightly to use the restroom.

If you are already limiting your water intake at night, there might be something else going on.

Did you know that when our bodies are sleeping soundly we release an antidiuretic hormone, called vasopressin, that reduces the urge to pee when sound asleep? Poor sleep, therefore, can lead to lower vasopressin release and may lead to more frequent urination trips. Additionally, since vasopressin is released later in the sleep cycle, getting only 6 hrs of sleep, as opposed to 7 or 8, can cause you to miss that release and become dehydrated the next day.

Something as simple as addressing your sleep may fix that urge to pee when you should be sleeping like a baby. Pay attention to your sleep habits, especially consistency, duration and quality, as are all three are critical factors to consider in your sleep routine.

If you missed our recent Sleep Workshop at the clinic, led by Lyndsy Kinghorn, NP, then check out our handy Sleep Checklist below. To read more about the connection between sleep, hydration and vasopressin, read this study. And dial in those zzz's!

We are thrilled when our clients regain their quality of life after trying one or more of our therapies. In an effort to share their success stories so that others might be helped, we are creating in-house case studies to publish periodically. Our hope is that more people will say, like our current success story patient who we'll call Bree W. (to maintain her anonymity), that coming to ICIM meant that she found hope.

Integrative medicine often combines the benefits of both traditional and alternative approaches.  Here is an example with acupuncture helping a traditional, more invasive approach like IVF improve efficacy and decrease miscarriages.

"The retrospective study included 131 women who were undergoing standard in vitro fertilization (IVF) or Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). All of these women were considered good prognosis candidates for IVF/ICSI and were given the choice of having acupuncture.  A total of 83 women declined (controls) and 48 accepted.  The study found that pregnancy rates per embryo transfer were not significantly different between the two groups (50% in the acupuncture group and 45% in controls). The miscarriage rate was almost halved in the acupuncture group (8% vs. 14%)."

Nutritional IV therapy, such as the Meyers’ Cocktail, has been shown to improve many different ailments by introducing vitamins and minerals often lost in the digestive process to the body for immediate use. Many see results for weeks or months over oral supplementation of the same nutrients. Here is an excerpt from an article by Alan R. Gaby:

Over an 11-year period, approximately 15,000 injections were administered in an outpatient setting to an estimated 800-1,000 different patients. Conditions that frequently responded included asthma attacks, acute migraines, fatigue (including chronic fatigue syndrome), fibromyalgia, acute muscle spasm, upper respiratory tract infections, chronic sinusitis, and seasonal allergic rhinitis. A small number of patients with congestive heart failure, angina, chronic urticaria, hyperthyroidism, dysmenorrhea, or other conditions were also treated with the Myers’ and most showed marked improvement. Many relatively healthy patients chose to receive periodic injections because it enhanced their overall well being for periods of a week to several months.”

Alternative Medicine Review Volume 7, Number 5 2002

These words by Frank Schallenberger tells us the basic principles of Prolozone therapy and how it is effectively used to treat many different forms of pain but also to heal damaged tissues in joints and injuries of the joints.

Prolozone is a technique that combines the principles of neural therapy, Prolotherapy, and ozone therapy. It involves injecting combinations of procaine, anti-inflammatory medications, homeopathics, vitamins, minerals, proliferatives, and ozone/oxygen gas into degenerated or injured joints, and into areas of pain. This article reviews the nature of what medical grade ozone is, how it works in biological systems, and how it can be used to regenerate joints and other damaged tissues, and to alleviate pain.”

Oral hydrogen peroxide therapies can cause terrible nausea but it has little or no side effects when taken intravenously. When taken through IV therapy, the benefits are often felt immediately. Read this excerpt by these doctors: Charles Farr, M.D., Ph.D., Gordon Josephs, D.O., M.D.(H), William Campbell Douglass, M.D., Walter O. Grotz, Dr. Edward Rosenow

“Dr.Farr, and some other physicians, feel that free-radicals are produced in the stomach when H 2 O 2 is administered orally, and these free-radicals are not safe. Combinations of fatty acids which are likely to be in the stomach in the presence of iron and ascorbate may reduce hydrogen peroxide to hydroxyl and superoxide free radicals. These may have a deleterious effect upon the gastric and duodonal mucosa, with an increase of glandular stomach erosion, duodonal hyperplasia (abnormal increase in number of cells), adenoma and carcinoma, although in rats there seems to be inconsistencies in the studies related to carcinogenesis using 0.8% concentration for ten weeks versus 1% concentration for 32 weeks, the former indicating carcinogensis, the latter not so. Since some clinics are using both intravenous and oral techniques with patients successfully, or to some good advantage, apparently not all possible research is in on the subject of oral versus IV administration. I have twice tried the oral method, and have failed to continue onward, because of a terrible, revolting nausea. Some folks react similarly, others don't, and some persevere despite all. As stated earlier, Dr. Farr's research demonstrates that hydrogen peroxide stimulates oxidative enzymes which increases the metabolic rate. Intravenous use rapidly relieves allergenic reactions, influenza symptoms, chronic systemic candidiasis, acute viral reactions as a result of the oxidation of antigenic substances and regulation of immune system functions. ”

The human immune system depends greatly upon the amount of hydrogen peroxide present to neutralize foreign invaders. Read more about it in this excerpt by these doctors: Charles Farr, M.D., Ph.D., Gordon Josephs, D.O., M.D.(H), William Campbell Douglass, M.D., Walter O. Grotz, Dr. Edward Rosenow

“I must report on this promising therapy, as so many physicians and patients have given me good tidings from its use. What is probably not so well known by the general public, and many practicing physicians, is that hydrogen peroxide has been used for more than a century, the abstracts of articles and research reports published from 1966 through 1988 alone reaches 2" high when printed on 8-1/2"X11" paper.

A number of clinics in the United States and Mexico use hydrogen peroxide therapy, as well as other treatment modalities, on a routine basis, usually given by intravenous injection (IV). Before scoffing, keep in mind that one of the very first lines of defense against any and all microorganisms recognized as invaders by our immunological system are macrophages and leucocytes, one of which uses hydrogen peroxide to oxidize the foreigners; and that vitamin C is effective principally by its ability to promote hydrogen peroxide use against foreign invaders, including parasites, viruses, bacteria, yeast/fungus; and that all body tissues contain catalase and that hydrogen peroxide in the presence of catalase is reduced to oxygen and water. So, there is strong reason to believe that added hydrogen peroxide, used properly, may be both effective against certain organ- isms and safe. Hydrogen peroxide is an essential metabolite, meaning that it is necessary to life's process, according to William Campbell Douglass, M.D. of Georgia. As we age, our immunological system weakens, which permits organisms of opportunity to spread, thereby breeding colonies of organisms whose presence is anathema to good health. Killing these organisms should permit at least temporary respite from microbial warfare, and give your system time to heal. According to William Campbell Douglass, M.D.

2 , not only is H 2 O 2 (Hyrogen Peroxide) involved in phagocytosis (killing and absorption of foreign germs), but also "it acts like insulin in that it aids the transport of sugar through the body." Is is also at least as important, or perhaps more so, than thyroid for heat generation because it creates "intraceullar thermogenesis, a warming of your cells which is absolutely essential to life's processes." Various physicians, including some of our referral physicians, also use hydrogen peroxide therapy for various ailments. Physicians have independently discovered such treatments to be effective against some types of cancer, leukemia, arthritis, coronary heart disease, arterial circulation disorders, colitis, gum diseases, and assorted children's diseases.”
